Astro A40 TR Headset + MixAmp Pro 2017

Are you someone who’s struggling with choosing the right pair of headsets for gaming? We might just have you covered as in this article, we’ll be reviewing the Astro A40 TR Headset + MixAmp Pro (2017) in terms of its specification, performance, controls and a lot more! Keep reading as we get to the bottom of it-

Pros And Cons Astro A40 TR Headset + MixAmp Pro 2017

The Astro A40 TR paired up with a MixAmp Pro makes a great gaming headphone combo in terms of the sound quality that it provides. The design is made in such a way that you find it quite comfortable for longer gaming sessions, in fact, it’s preferred for it! Find below the Pros and Cons for the Astro A40 TR Headset + MixAmp Pro (2017)-

Pros-

  1. With the equalizer being as it is with some additional presets, the headphones can produce picture-perfect sound or you’ve always got the option to change it to your liking.
  1. The Headphone’s exterior is well-designed overall which makes it one of the best if not the best choice under the given price level to be used for Longer gaming sessions!
  1. Superior Microphone quality with options to control the mic’s boost levels, noise reduction and some more at your disposal!

Cons-

  1. Users have complained about poor design for Noise Isolation, Noise Isolation is basically very similar to Noise cancellation and refers to blocking out external sound by wedging something into your ears.
  1. The Design, despite being comfortable for longer durations, is quite bulky and could mean that these wouldn’t be the first choice of headsets for a lot of people!

Primary Details about the Astro A40 TR Headset + MixAmp Pro 2017

  • Wired Headphones
  • Wearing style: Over-the-ear
  • Pressure Transducer (Dynamic Pressure Transducer)
  • Weight: 0.83 pounds or 376 Grams.
  • Clamping Force: 0.9 pounds or 410 Grams.

The overall build quality of the headset feels complete as well as sturdy and the material is durable enough to survive a few drops. Durability is needed in almost all of the gaming headsets and the Astro A40 TR provides it well enough!

The Headphones have no option for them to be converted into wireless which is also a con, however, this actually helps reduce the delay in sound processing that a lot of wireless headphones come with and due to these being designed specifically for gaming, we think that it’s better this way.

Weighing at around 376 Grams and clamping at around 410, we’d say that the weight is quite justified at this level given the features it provides, it isn’t too light nor too heavy. A clamping Force of 410 grams is more than enough to make sure that the headsets don’t fall while you move around for a bit.

Astro A40 TR + MixAmp Pro 2017 – Control Options-

Include

  • A defined volume control
  • Option to mute/unmute your microphone at your disposal
  • Channel Mixing

Does not include-

  • No direct call control

Further, these headphones aren’t specific to a single OS, which poses no threat to us gamers. Getting into it, there are limited options for Music control but when it comes to gaming options there’s plenty, making it the perfect fit for all your gaming needs. For instance, you’ve got an instant mic-mute button and a volume knob, further, these being linked to the MixAmp Pro, you’ve got so much more at your disposal, such as EQ Presets, Dolby Atmos with the option to toggle it on and off at times, The power button that allows for you to switch between PC and/or Console Modes. These controls are quite accessible and provide good touch feedback as well!

Astro A40 TR review in terms of Bass Quality and Precision:

Overall, the bass quality feels rich, be it for music or gaming in general. It’s quite flat by default but you could play around with it to find your perfect level, further, the bass drivers produce a decent bit of thud and rumble, which is one of the best qualities to be included in headsets that are majorly used for music. Overall, the bass seems like it’s slightly over-the-top and a bit to handle, if you like some extra bass on your headsets, you might’ve found the right one!

How does the Astro A40 TR perform against other headsets in the same category?

Before we get into it, the A40 TRs are quite perfect in terms of sound quality but there’s one factor to consider before you purchase the A40 TR and MixAmp Pro combo and that’s the features/options it provides at the given price level, these headsets are less adjustable comparatively and it’s software on the other hand is good enough but there’s better available.

Comparing the Astro A40 TR (2017) and MixAmp Pro (2017) with its direct competitor, the Astro A50 Gen 4 Wireless-

The major difference between these two is only the connectivity option, meaning, the A50 Gen 4 Wireless is only available in Wireless while the A40 TR and MixAmp Pro are only available in a wired format. Most of the users that use the A40 TR for gaming would prefer it over the A50 Gen 4 and that’s because they’ll have a latency advantage over the latter. In all other factors, they’re quite similar and you probably won’t be able to notice much difference in terms of performance.

Comparing the Astro A40 TR (2017) and MixAmp Pro (2017) with the Artics Pro Wireless SteelSeries.

We’ll have to say that the Artics Pro Wireless perform just a bit better than the Astro A40 TRs, this is due to the fact that the former provides closed-back as well as an analog connection. It has more options in terms of being adjustable unlike the A40 TR combo, further, these headsets provide a swappable battery cartridge and a whole array of different features! We’d say that they’re better compared with the A50 Gen 4 Wireless, anyways, Artics Pro take this one!

That’s everything we had on the Astro A40 TR headsets, if we’ve helped you in any way, please drop a comment and keep visiting us for more such guides!
