Dell Alienware 15 R4 Review

Welcome a new, sleeker, and more sophisticated Dell Alienware 15 R4. Similar to its older brother Alienware 17 this model too has gone through a color change. But this is not it. It now has an upgraded processor, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 Series GPU that gives you an enhanced gaming experience with 60 frames per sec ray tracing. With its new look, Alienware has lost a bit of its girth, but it still has all its amazing features including the customizable LED lights. The 8th generation Core i7 processor performed inadequately in the productivity testing, which may put off a few Customers. Display

Dell Alienware 15 R4

This version offers the 15.6-inch, UHD 3840 x 2160, 60 Hz, anti-glare, 100% DCI-P3, 400 nits, wide-viewing angle, Tobii, OLED Display. Even with the 4k view it has a long way to go when it can support ray tracing at 4K at 60 frames per second.

So it might be a step back with your gaming experience. But it ensures that it offers a wide colour gamut and enough brightness.

Design

To cater to all the style crazed + tech-savvy people, the company has launched its new Epic Black colour along with the standard silver colour. It has an anodized aluminium lid and now has 13 separate illumination zones.

Like all the previous models the alien head logo in the center is the only source of illumination.  The edges of the lid and keyboard can be customized according to your preferences giving you the perfect gaming vibe.

Ports

The Alienware 15 has ample ports, just like every typical gaming laptop. Most of these are placed near the system’s rear. These ports include the power connector, ethernet port, mini display port, Thunderbolt 3 port, along with the Graphics Amplifier unique port.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The Alienware keyboard is super responsive and relieves your fingers from applying pressure while typing. The actuation force of 78 grams is spread around the space of a 2 mm stroke on the key. This number is a lot compared to what we have now in regular laptops. This allows fast typing of almost 70-80 words per min.

The touchpad allows you enough room to move around with its 3.9 x 2.1-inch size. Multitoch movements like pinch and zoom or three-finger pressing and flicking also become a lot easier. Alienware still offers discrete mouse buttons, making its name in the list of the select few manufacturers who produce them.

Audio

Alienware 15 has a super powerful set of front speakers, that can easily fill a medium-sized meeting room. It has super clear sound and deep bass. However, a mild high-frequency distortion can be heard when the audio is at its maximum level.

Performance

Alienware offers high performance to its users thanks to the Intel core i7 processor,  16GB of ram, and 256GB PCle m.2 SSD, and 1TB 7,200 HDD. With these specifications, one will not have an issue running 25 chrome tabs at once, among which one is playing a video with 1080p with zero glitches.

Although it does fall short when compared to other mobile gaming devices. In Its macro test, the processor matched 65,000 names and addresses within 50 seconds. This is a lot more than the Blade, Stealth Tin Take, Zephyrus, etc but is it still not to the mark of 0:44.

Battery

It offers a battery life of 5hr and 15 mins, even if you are using constant Wi-Fi, web browsing, movie playback, and graphic benchmarking. This is lingerie than the general norm of 3Hrs 40 mins that is offered by most gaming laptops.

Conclusion

To conclude, the Dell Alienware 15 R4 is a super sophisticated and sleek gaming laptop with amazing features. Its enhanced Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 Series GPU offers better gaming experiences with 60 frames per second ray tracing. The customizable LED lights in the keyboard and rim add to its appeal. Although the processor might have not performed to the mark during its tests, it falls short in supporting the ray tracing at 4K. It still is one of the best gaming laptops that you can afford in this range, with a longer battery life.
